Original AU history is scattered throughout my infodump tag. Basically - genderswapped Thief King whose ka was born of a wish, always remained physical, and could take the form of a little she!Ryou.


Like so.
In Asphodel, "Djet" is a bit of a regretful case for her family. Though they themselves could only barely manage to afford to send her to school - and she'd be a brilliant student if she actually turned in her work on time - Djet squanders her time drinking, partying hard, and hitting on every girl in a fifty-foot radius without much success. In class she's a philosophy major, and hasn't spoken out much - but when she does she's sometimes even managed to argue the professor into a corner, then returned to her usual slump. Still, school is better than home, where she can't stand having people telling her what to do.

It'd almost be better if they weren't there....

How am I doing? Am I too offensive? Not offensive enough? Does Papyrus resemble any other DR Bakurae too much? (I'm a huge fan of every one, but because of my respect for them, I don't want to steal for my thief in some convoluted ironic accident.)

But yes, ambition! We'd all like to think it's such a dirty concept, here on this beautifully-arranged paradise where everyone, like a masterfully-constructed puzzle, has a neat little slot in which they fit, connected perfectly arm-in-arm with their fellow man. Surrounded by their companions, each different, with a different role to play, but all equal in the eyes of God! Praise be the system, praise be Ma'at the glorious goddess of order and justice!

But you know something about puzzles?

It only takes a single arm shaking the table to rend them completely undone.

If not, the whole afterlife market's a scheme any crook would be proud of. Barter for grave finery, rob once they've passed - a perpetuating cycle! I wish I'd thought of it myself!

A thief doesn't get very far by being afraid...everything that frightens me, I conquer.

Why do you think Diabound and I burned our victims a few months back?

Why do you think we regrouped after seeing the palace for the first time?

Why do you think, just when we're on the verge of being caught, we always double our strength?

Why do you think I always fight on my own terms?

It's just smart.

This is a strange AU that gets stranger and more developed every time I think about it. I don't expect anyone to actually care where I'm coming from with this, but if anyone wants to read a big long ramble about the way my mind works, well…click that cut right there.

A choice for Twosday. At last, by accident or design, you have that person, the one who stole your wife/killed your brother/destroyed your homeland/ate the last of your triple fudge ice cream, helpless before you.

Do you take your revenge? Or do you show mercy? And afterwards, do you think there will be second thoughts?

...I thought you said this was a choice.

For today, we challenge you to tell us ways in which your character has changed from their initial depiction/initial concept. If it's an original character, ways in which they've changed as you've written them; if it's a fandom character, either ways in which they've changed in their canon portrayal, or ways in which you've deviated from how they were initially presented in canon.

I'm going to have to work on fixing her speech pattern, first and foremost. Thief King in canon - or at least the Viz translation - is far more ominous all the time, and doesn't ever actually use "punk" abbreviations. They've crept into Papyrus in part because of Thief King's occasionally vulgar demeanor and in part as an attempt to mimic the speech patterns Rica Matsumoto uses for the character (despite Papyrus being based off manga canon). I'm still trying to figure out how much she should swear- I keep wanting to have her swear a blue streak but TK doesn't need to cuss in canon to make his point. In fact, like most Yugioh villains he errs on overly-formal more often than not.

Everything else that's different is just me trying to extrapolate for situations we don't get to see - we don't see him having to speak honestly about close personal feelings (other than revenge), we barely see him in lulls between battles. He's always got his game face on, he's always performing, he's always interacting with his enemies. So I have to work with my understanding of the character, and how he might change if he grew up female instead, to fill in the quiet periods and give her some more introspection and depth behind all that concentrated awesome.

Being from an AU isn't exactly in the scope of this question, but it's affected her too. She has someone to perform for, she has someone else's high standards to live up to. I keep dragging Gurren Lagann into this, but it fits: she can howl defiance at the world and exult in herself because Diabound is there backing her up, being her strength and her inspiration. If anything, she's got an even higher opinion of herself and even more bluster because there is someone always at her shoulder ready to catch her when she stumbles, but who will never hold it against her, who'll just smile and take her hand.

One thief will start a war, but she can't do it alone.
